Melaka:Police have detained four Myanmar nationals in connection with the death of a one-year-old boy suspected of neglect and physical abuse.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar reported that the suspects, which include two men and two women aged between 20 and 50, were arrested separately at two locations along Jalan Melati in Banda Hilir and on Pulau Melaka. Among those detained is the victim's mother. The arrests took place between 1.30 pm and 6 pm yesterday.

The investigation was initiated after police received a report from a doctor at Melaka Hospital concerning the boy's death around 4 pm on Wednesday. Initially, the mother claimed that her son had died from a seizure. However, a post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was due to physical injuries.

All four suspects are currently remanded for six days to assist with the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
