CPO Futures Decline as Budget 2027 Omits Export Duty Waiver

Kuala Lumpur:Crude palm oil (CPO) futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives saw a decrease on Friday following the absence of an export duty waiver announcement in Budget 2027.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, market optimism weakened after the anticipated waiver was not included in the budget, leading to a reversal in the momentum of CPO futures. David Ng, a proprietary trader with Iceberg X Sdn Bhd, noted that the market had been optimistic about the potential waiver. He stated support is seen at RM4,500 with resistance at RM4,680.

At the market's close, the October and November 2026 contracts fell by RM86 to RM4,362 and RM4,465 per tonne, respectively. The December 2026 contract decreased by RM69 to RM4,592 per tonne. Additionally, the January 2027 contract dropped by RM58 to RM4,709 per tonne, February 2027 fell by RM44 to RM4,810, and March 2027 dipped by RM23 to RM4,902.

Trading volume decreased to 145,207 lots from 160,977 on Thursday. However, open interest rose to 337,867 contracts from the previous 333,864.

The price of physical CPO for October South also experienced a decline, dropping RM10 to RM4,450 per tonne.
