Kuala lumpur: The 2026 Indian Entrepreneur Capital and Economic Stimulus Package, known as MUDRA, is anticipated to support approximately 10,000 Indian entrepreneurs by the year's end, with a substantial financing allocation of RM220 million.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Gobalakrishnan Narayanasamy, president of the Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI), announced that around 2,000 entrepreneurs have already benefited from the initiative, securing RM70 million in approved financing. He highlighted MAICCI's efforts in organizing a nationwide campaign, the MAICCI - MUDRA Roadshow 2026, aimed at increasing access to financing facilities for small and medium entrepreneurs.

Gobalakrishnan elaborated that the program aims to assist about 3,000 entrepreneurs in the short term through nine MAICCI workshops and roadshows. He encouraged entrepreneurs to engage directly with participating financing agencies, emphasizing the expectation that around 10,000 entrepreneurs will benefit from the RM220 million allocation by year-end. The MUDRA initiative, a strategic effort by the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry, aims to reach entrepreneurs at the grassroots level, including Indian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), youth, women entrepreneurs, and cooperatives nationwide.

MAICCI deputy president Datuk Dr. AT Kumararajah added that the roadshow would facilitate the application process for Indian MSME entrepreneurs with participating financing agencies. He noted that participation in chamber-organized programs has historically led to higher success rates for financing applications compared to individual attempts due to the chambers' experience, training, and supportive ecosystem.

On another note, Gobalakrishnan urged the government to address the shortage of foreign workers, a pressing issue especially in the manufacturing and food and beverage sectors, as businesses struggle with obtaining necessary quotas despite critical labor demands.

In a separate statement, MAICCI reported that by May 10, 2026, the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (KUSKOP) had approved RM70 million in financing for nearly 2,000 Indian entrepreneurs through the MUDRA initiative, part of the RM220 million fund designated to empower Indian entrepreneurs in Malaysia. Agencies and schemes involved in MUDRA include TEKUN Nasional, SME Bank, Bank Rakyat, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), and the Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission of Malaysia (SKM).
