Pattaya: The national men’s handball squad kicked off their SEA Games 2025 campaign on a sour note after losing 20-39 to hosts Thailand in the opening group stage match at Pattaya Chonburi Indoor Athletics Stadium today. Thailand began strongly, leading 15-10 early in the match, before Malaysia attempted to close the gap.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the hosts maintained control and extended their lead to 30-20. In the final stages, Thailand tightened their defence and added nine more goals to seal a comfortable victory. Malaysia is scheduled to face the Philippines in their second group stage match.
The 33rd edition of the biennial event officially opens on Dec 9 and will be held across Bangkok and Chonburi, concluding on Dec 20.
