Kuala lumpur: The Kangar Municipal Council (MPK) has been rebranded as the Perlis State Municipal Council (MPNPs), effective July 16.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MPNPs president Affendi Rajini Kanth stated that the council is now focusing on restructuring the local authority. This involves notifying the Local Government Department (JKT) and the Public Service Department (JPA) to align official posts with the new branding.

"The rebranding covers various administrative aspects, including changing the name on buildings, bank accounts, and the restructuring of official positions such as the president and councillors. We hope this gazettement will enable us to further expand initiatives to strengthen MPNPs holistically," Affendi said.

He shared these updates following the pre-launch of the Faizuddin Centre of Educational Excellence (FCoEE)-Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) Asnaf Research Centre. The event also saw the launch of a book and the presentation of Phase 3 FCoEE Research Grants for the year. The event was officiated by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, with the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, also in attendance.

Affendi highlighted improvements planned after the rebranding, such as decentralising the business licence application and approval processes at the branch level. Previously, applications were submitted at branch offices and then forwarded to the headquarters for approval.

"We plan to place Grade 41 officers with director status at each branch (Arau, Padang Besar, and Kuala Perlis) through this rebranding exercise so that business licences can be approved directly without going through the headquarters. This will speed up the approval process and ease the burden on the public," he explained.
