Cyberjaya: The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) and PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd are collaborating to strengthen road safety awareness through media literacy and public communication campaigns to enhance public understanding of the importance of vehicle maintenance and safe driving practices.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, in a joint statement, they said the collaboration also discussed the development of media literacy programmes on the latest technology in the vehicle inspection industry, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve inspection process efficiency and provide public exposure to vehicle maintenance and safety aspects.
PUSPAKOM chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman stated that the collaboration had great potential to raise public awareness on the importance of road safety through the delivery of accurate and easy-to-understand information. He expressed optimism about the proposal, highlighting that PUSPAKOM believes the collaboration can benefit the public and emphasized the hope for its expedited implementation.
Meanwhile, MPI president Datuk Yong Soo Heong welcomed PUSPAKOM's willingness to establish the strategic collaboration. He mentioned MPI's intention to study appropriate implementation methods, including the development of media literacy modules, training programmes, public communication campaigns, and educational initiatives to enhance public understanding of road safety.
During the meeting at the MPI Training Centre in Cyberjaya, PUSPAKOM also presented a RM20,000 contribution to MPI in support of the Malaysian Press Night 2026, scheduled to be held on July 17 at The Majestic Hotel in Cyberjaya. This marks the third consecutive year the company has sponsored the event.
Mahmood underscored that the contribution reflected PUSPAKOM's commitment to supporting the development of professional journalism in Malaysia and appreciating the role of the media as a strategic partner in delivering accurate information to the public. He noted the ongoing trust in media as a source of information and its role in shaping public understanding of various issues, including vehicle and road safety.
