Kuala lumpur: The Transport Ministry (MOT) is conducting investigations into the operator of the bus involved in the fatal three-vehicle crash at Kilometre 441.2 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) here last Sunday. Its minister, Anthony Loke, revealed that the investigation will focus on compliance with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Inspection and Safety Audit (JISA) and the installation of the speed limiter device (SLD).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough audit following the incident. The JPJ will carry out the audit, and the findings will be submitted to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD). If the operator fails the audit, their operations will be suspended. The investigation will determine whether the bus company complied with the requirements for SLD installation, and necessary actions will be taken if non-compliance is found.
Loke further announced the government's intention to appoint several companies to conduct a proof of concept on the telematics system for buses. He stated that the implementation of telematics is not limited to buses but extends to other commercial vehicles as well, highlighting the MOT's commitment to enhancing vehicle safety.
The driver of the express bus involved in the crash, a 22-year-old, was apprehended by police and remanded for a day to facilitate investigations into the incident that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to nine others.
