MOT Allocates RM1.5 Million To Build, Upgrade 100 Bus Stops In KL

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) approved an additional RM1.5 million allocation to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to construct and upgrade bus stops across the federal capital. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the move follows complaints from public transport users about the lack of proper bus facilities at several locations in Kuala Lumpur.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, one common complaint from city dwellers is having to wait by the roadside due to the absence of proper bus stands, designated areas, or signage. Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized the importance of addressing this issue during his speech at the launch of the Segambut Utara Railway Station. The event was attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.

Loke mentioned that the cost to construct or upgrade each bus stop is estimated to be between RM15,000 and RM30,000, and the allocation should cover work on about 100 bus stops. He noted that a similar project had been previously implemented by the MOT in collaboration with local authorities in Penang, expressing hope that DBKL would complete the project faster than Penang, potentially within three months.

Additionally, Loke expressed appreciation to DBKL for its commitment to continuing the free GoKL bus service for city residents. He highlighted improvements in the GoKL fleet, including the introduction of electric buses, aimed at enhancing the public transport experience in the capital.
