Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) through the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) has formulated various strategic initiatives to strengthen the development of local talent and expertise in facing the increasingly competitive New Space Economy era. The initiative is outlined through the National Space Policy 2030 (DAN2030), the Malaysia Space Exploration Action Plan 2030 (MSE2030), and the Space Industry Strategic Plan 2030 (SISP2030).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government's primary focus in facing this global competition is not merely on the acquisition of space assets; rather, the most critical aspect is building, honing, and retaining local talent and expertise. In response to a parliamentary query by Tan Kar Hing (PH-Gopeng) regarding Malaysia's steps to ensure it is not left behind in the global space economy competition, MOSTI emphasized the need for highly skilled human capital to drive sustainable growth in the space industry. This aligns with DAN2030, which targets the space sector to contribute at least one percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030.
Among the efforts and initiatives currently being implemented are the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Projects, the Industrial Technology Innovation Centre (ITIC) Initiative, the Space Industry Rating Programme, and the Strengthening of the TVET 2.0 Ecosystem and Academia-Industry Collaboration.
Overall, these initiatives are expected to not only enhance the country's technological capabilities but also serve as a key driver in realizing the government's ambition to produce 5,000 experts and skilled workers by 2030 in the space field.
