Mosques Must Remain Neutral, Declares Kedah Raja Muda

Alor setar: The Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin, emphasized that mosques should not be places for conflict or division but should serve as centers for community unity. He insisted that politics should be completely excluded from mosques, including during speeches, religious talks, or any discussions that might create tension.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah declared that any political activities, regardless of their form, organized by any party at mosques and surau premises are strictly prohibited. He underlined that maintaining mosques as spaces free from discord would contribute to a more peaceful and united community. His remarks were made during a seminar focused on empowering Kedah mosques.

Additionally, the Raja Muda, who presides over the Kedah Islamic Religious Council (MAIK), stressed the importance of mosque committees taking responsible action to plan and execute activities that benefit the community. He highlighted the necessity of transparent financial management within mosques to prevent any misuse of power or negligence that could undermine public trust in these religious institutions.

Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah also reminded all parties to adhere to the guidelines set by MAIK and the State Department of Islamic Religious Affairs, especially those regarding the use of loudspeakers in mosques and surau. He instructed that the call to prayer should be broadcasted via external loudspeakers, while other activities like talks and lectures should use internal loudspeakers at appropriate volumes to maintain local harmony and respect community sensitivities.
