More Bumiputera Businesses Should Tap Into High-value Sectors, Says Deputy Minister


Kuala lumpur: The government hopes to see greater participation from the Bumiputera business community in high-value sectors such as digital technology and green innovation. Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir emphasized the need for young Bumiputera talents to be empowered with globally competitive skills and strong leadership to achieve this goal.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Akmal highlighted the importance of strengthening collaborations between Bumiputera companies, large corporations, and international partners. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a business ecosystem that upholds excellence and integrity. The government plans to expand access to financing and venture capital, strengthen export facilitation, and accelerate the adoption of digital and ESG practices to enhance competitiveness. Additionally, regulatory processes will be simplified to reduce the cost and complexity of doing business.

During the Bumip
utera Business Excellence Awards 2025, where notable figures such as Tengku Sri Temenggong Raja Terengganu Datuk Seri Tengku Baharuddin Sultan Mahmud, BBEA chairman Datuk Dr Muhamad Iqbal Mohamad, and Bernama CEO Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin were present, Akmal Nasrullah expressed that increasing Bumiputera participation aligns with Malaysia’s vision of building a dynamic and globally integrated Bumiputera economic ecosystem.

Bumiputera entrepreneurs play a crucial role in driving the domestic economy and contributing to Malaysia’s regional and global future. They form an essential pillar of the country’s economic structure by creating jobs, building industries, and supporting the domestic supply chain, all with the aim of ensuring shared prosperity. Akmal noted that opportunities must be distributed fairly to ensure no Malaysian is left behind in the development process.

He also stated that the success of Bumiputera entrepreneurs, particularly in sectors such as technology, manufacturing, services,
agriculture, and energy, is reflective of an inclusive and competitive Malaysia that remains rooted in its identity while embracing a global vision.
