Monsoon Surge to Bring Heavy Rain and Strong Winds to Sarawak

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has announced an impending monsoon surge that is expected to affect the country from January 1 to 5. This weather phenomenon is forecast to bring prolonged heavy rain to Sarawak, alongside strong winds and rough seas over the South China Sea during this period.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia director-general Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip advised the public to stay informed by visiting the official MetMalaysia website, following their social media channels, and downloading the myCuaca application for the latest updates. This information was shared in a statement on MetMalaysia's Facebook page.

In addition to the rain forecast, MetMalaysia has issued a Category Three warning for strong winds and rough seas in the northeastern waters of Condore and northwestern Reef North, which is expected to last until Friday. The winds are predicted to exceed 60 km/h, with waves reaching higher than 4.5 meters, making these conditions hazardous for all coastal and maritime activities, including operations on offshore oil platforms.

A separate Category One warning has been issued for the southeastern waters of Samui, Tioman, northern Bunguran, southeastern and northern Reef North, Layang-Layang, and western Palawan. This warning, also in effect until Friday, anticipates winds of 40-50 km/h and waves up to 3.5 meters. These conditions pose a risk to small boats and marine recreational and sports activities.
