MOHE Reviews Proposals for POLYCC Restructuring, Says Minister

Shah alam: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is currently gathering proposals and findings to implement the restructuring of polytechnics and community colleges (POLYCC) in an effort to strengthen and improve these institutions. Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, revealed that several key aspects such as salary issues, career pathways, professional development, and the positions of officers are being reviewed.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a committee has been established at the POLYCC level to review all aspects, including the current legal standing. Zambry shared this information with reporters after attending the Central Zone 'Kembara Karisma Pemimpin Muda MADANI' POLYCC 2026 Programme at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic.

Zambry mentioned that proposals obtained from various programmes, including the one held today, will be compiled and presented to the Cabinet once ready. Previously, he highlighted the government's drafting of restructuring efforts for 36 polytechnics nationwide. This initiative aims to enhance their roles, enabling them to offer undergraduate and master's degree programs, thus meeting the needs of current and future industries, particularly in the high-tech field.

The 'Kembara Karisma Pemimpin Muda MADANI 2026' programme, organised by the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), serves as a strategic platform to develop young leadership talents among lecturers and administrators in higher education institutions. This initiative aligns with the values of Malaysia MADANI, focusing on excellent governance and strategic thinking to meet national higher education aspirations.

The programme gathered approximately 300 young lecturers and administrators from polytechnics and community colleges in the Central Zone. It aims to strengthen leadership networks, enhance competencies, and prepare future leaders in the country's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

Meanwhile, Zambry addressed the issue of recognition for the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), stating that it does not arise following the government's decision to permit graduates from Chinese Independent Secondary Schools to pursue certain programs at public higher education institutions. This decision was made based on current needs and the existing education system, including the requirements related to the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
