MOE’s 2026 Preschool Curriculum Focuses On Restoring Natural Disposition Of Children

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Education’s (MOE) 2026 Preschool Curriculum focuses on restoring the natural disposition of children by giving them the space to grow, play and interact naturally without academic pressure that is unsuitable for their age.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, unlike previous practices, which leaned towards drilling reading, writing, and arithmetic (the 3Rs), the new curriculum emphasises communication, social, and emotional skills to nurture pupils to be healthy in terms of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Curriculum Development Division director, Nooraini Kamaruddin, stated that this new approach provides preschool children with the space and opportunity to learn through play, interaction, and exploration of their environment, as well as focuses on building a pupil’s character, values, and self-confidence.

Nooraini highlighted during an engagement session with media agencies regarding the 2027 School Curriculum, which includes the 2026 Preschool Curriculum and the 2026 Preschool Curriculum (Special Education), that policy changes cannot be drafted based solely on current desires or trends. Instead, they must be grounded in principles of child learning that are recognised both locally and internationally. The curriculum’s emphasis is on the concept of human development, which existed previously but has been realigned to better suit current needs and challenges.

She elaborated that the development process for this curriculum began in 2021, with various engagement sessions and comprehensive studies conducted to gather and review different perspectives alongside other supporting data. A large-scale survey of over 60,000 respondents showed a 71 per cent approval rate for the new curriculum’s direction, with feedback incorporated into the final framework.

The 2026 Preschool Curriculum will not only apply to preschools under the MOE but also extend to all KEMAS Kindergartens, PERPADUAN Kindergartens, and private kindergartens registered under the Ministry. This initiative aims to standardise and align the national early education standard, preparing pupils for Year One under the KP2027 framework. The KP2027 curriculum aims to nurture responsible citizens who value unity, respect diversity, and maintain a balanced lifestyle.

The curriculum also introduces new subjects, such as ‘Alam dan Manusia : Pembelajaran Bersepadu’ for Phase I pupils, and Technology and Digital for Phase III pupils, which will continue into secondary education. The overall goal of KP2027 is to cultivate globally competitive, balanced individuals who embrace lifelong learning.
