Kuala Lumpur:The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced plans to investigate allegations of potential collusion among companies involved in the Phase Two 2026 Cooked Food Supply Services (BMB) tender for the 2027-2029 period.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MOE Secretary-General Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim emphasized the ministry's commitment to cooperating with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if further investigation is warranted. Wan Hashim highlighted the importance of basing allegations on facts and credible evidence, rather than on similarities in companies’ registered addresses or business profiles.
He noted that the MOE is examining factors such as relationships between bidders, conflicts of interest, and bidding patterns to uphold transparency and integrity. Concerns were raised by Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saifulruddin Wan Jan about the Phase Two BMB tender results. Wan Hashim confirmed that 245 tenders were advertised, with 242 awarded, two cancelled, and one postponed.
Additionally, Wan Hashim addressed disparities in contract values, explaining that differences arise from the specific requirements of each institution. He emphasized that contracts were awarded based on technical compliance, experience, and financial capability, not merely on business profiles.
Furthermore, he clarified that all successful companies were registered under Field Code 040103 for Muslim Cooked Food and that food preparation occurs at school kitchens. He denied claims regarding an erroneous tender award for a hostel in Kedah, stating cross-checks confirmed the successful bidder's address in Yan, Kedah.
The MOE remains committed to ensuring procurement processes comply with governance standards to maintain the quality and safety of food services for students nationwide.
