Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Education (MoE) is firm in addressing sexual misconduct among students in all educational institutions, said Minister Fadhlina Sidek. She emphasized the ministry’s commitment to collaborate with relevant ministries and agencies to ensure issues, including cyber safety, are handled effectively. Also present were Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh and Education director-general Datuk Azman Adnan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching highlighted the necessity for private schools to adopt better standard operating procedures (SOPs) to manage sexual misconduct, including complaints related to AI-generated obscene images. Teo’s comments followed the recent dissemination of edited explicit images of female students allegedly sold on social media, involving a private secondary school in Kulai, Johor. She noted that the school administration had been informed about the issue since the previous year.
Earlier, Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar reported that police have received 22 reports thus far, and a 16-year-old boy has been remanded until next Tuesday. The case emerged after an 18-year-old girl filed a police report upon discovering her face was used in the explicit images, which subsequently went viral on social media. The suspect is believed to have sold the edited images for as little as RM2 each.
