Sandakan:A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale struck the waters off Sandakan at 9:11 pm tonight.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the earthquake was detected at coordinates 4.9 degrees North and 118.7 degrees East, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was approximately 48 kilometers east of Lahad Datu.

Strong tremors were felt in parts of Sabah's east coast as a result of the earthquake. MetMalaysia has assured the public that it will continue to closely monitor the situation.

The department also encouraged individuals who experienced the tremors to complete an official survey at https://forms.gle/fMioquNhRNQGCbZVA to aid in gathering field information.
