Kelantan:The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is reinforcing its risk-based approach to migration management, focusing on intelligence-led operations. This strategy includes intelligence gathering, monitoring, and early detection to strengthen border control and prevent illegal migrant entry.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, The MMEA highlighted a recent success in Kelantan, where an attempt to smuggle migrants was thwarted. This demonstrated how accurate intelligence can lead to effective enforcement actions.
The government is implementing repatriation efforts in phases while bolstering enforcement to curb migrant smuggling and ensure the safety of national waters. Recently, 1,476 Myanmar refugees were repatriated using three Myanmar Navy ships under the Repatriation Programme, involving detainees from 14 Immigration detention depots nationwide. The highest numbers of repatriated individuals came from the Belantik depot in Kedah and the Tanah Merah depot in Kelantan.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil previously stated that 3,524 Myanmar detainees have agreed to voluntary repatriation in the programme's second phase.
