Calicut: The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) is set to advance efforts to broaden market access for Malaysian goods in India, as stated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar highlighted that during discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, certain trade restrictions were identified, necessitating resolution to enhance bilateral trade.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar addressed the media in Calicut, detailing that existing limitations, such as those affecting airlines, require attention. The Prime Minister is advocating for improved facilities in additional Indian cities to facilitate trade expansion. During his working visit to India, Anwar also met with Keralam Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, where they discussed using proper channels to resolve these concerns and strengthen investment ties.

Anwar underscored Malaysia's perspective of India as a critical economic ally, with the objective of reinforcing trade and investment links. He stressed that expanding market access is crucial for allowing more Malaysian goods to enter the Indian market, ultimately benefiting Malaysia's local industries and businesses.

The discussions with Satheesan also focused on enhancing economic cooperation, particularly with India's southern state, Keralam. This meeting was part of Anwar's working visit to India and marked his first visit to Keralam as Prime Minister. Anwar's itinerary included participating in the BRICS Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, where he delivered a national statement on promoting inclusive global growth.
