Melaka’s Dengue Fatality Rate Exceeds MOH Threshold

Melaka: Melaka recorded a dengue case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.29 percent last year, surpassing the 0.20 percent threshold set by the Health Ministry. State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan revealed the increase in dengue-related deaths to three last year, up from two in 2024.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 1,046 dengue cases were reported statewide last year, involving 38 outbreaks, including two classified as hotspots and three recurrent outbreaks. Paya Rumput emerged as the area with the highest number of cases, recording 98 cases and two outbreaks during the same period.

Fairul Nizam conveyed these details while delivering a speech on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh at the Demi Paya Rumput Carnival and Mega Gotong-Royong program aimed at combating Aedes at Taman Rambai Jaya. The event was attended by Paya Rumput assemblyman Datuk Rais Yasin.

Meanwhile, the state government has allocated RM100,000 this year for the MyMAT community programme and plans to expand the release of Wolbachia-infected Aedes mosquitoes to address the rising dengue cases in several districts. This allocation is part of the RM4.4 million provided under the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) public health scheme.

Fairul Nizam emphasized the state's commitment to strengthening intervention measures in collaboration with the Melaka Health Department. These measures include operations to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, health education, and continuous enforcement in high-risk areas. He also highlighted the Mega Gotong-Royong programme to combat Aedes as a proactive step to disrupt the mosquito breeding cycle and enhance community participation.
