Melaka Police Apprehend 15 Myanmar Nationals in Human Trafficking Raid

Melaka: Fifteen Myanmar nationals, including 10 men and five women, have been detained on suspicion of involvement in human trafficking and migrant smuggling. The arrests occurred during an Op Pintas raid at a hotel lobby in Ayer Keroh.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit stated that the raid, which took place at approximately 5 pm, was the result of intelligence gathered by the D7 Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Melaka Police Contingent Headquarters. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the D7 CID of the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters.

Among those detained, one individual is believed to be an agent involved in human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Police seized a motorcycle and a mobile phone from this suspect. All suspects, aged between 21 and 39, have been remanded until January 15 of the following year to assist with investigations under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

ACP Patit expressed gratitude to the public for providing information to the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters. He also urged anyone with information on criminal activities to contact the police hotline at 06-2842222.
