Kuala lumpur: The Melaka government has announced a special allocation of RM25 million dedicated to repairing drainage systems and infrastructure that were damaged by recent floods. State Works, Infrastructure, Public Facilities, and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer stated that 100 locations have been identified for urgent repairs, including roads, river embankments, and drainage systems.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a task force has been established to oversee the repair works, coordinated by the state Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID). The allocation has been distributed to various agencies including the District and Land Office, Public Works Department, and local authorities to execute the repairs, which are categorized into two types. The implementing agencies have a deadline of the end of August to complete the tasks.

Datuk Hameed emphasized that these efforts are part of the state government's short-term strategy to tackle flooding issues in Melaka. For long-term solutions, the state government has requested funding from the Federal government to construct additional water retention ponds and to enhance the drainage system's capacity to manage increased water flow during heavy rains.
