Melaka:The Melaka state government has dedicated nearly RM100,000 to the Jualan Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) sales programme. This initiative aims to help citizens save on groceries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Senior Exco Member for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management, Datuk Rais Yasin, stated that the funds are distributed through coupons, subsidizing over 40 items, including chicken, prawns, squid, cockles, and meat.

The programme offers 2,000 chickens at RM5 each and grocery packages priced as low as RM40. A total of 2,000 coupons worth RM50 each have been distributed for use at Jualan MeSRa stalls, involving 25 main market traders.

Datuk Rais Yasin mentioned that Jualan MeSRa is a new initiative by the state government aimed at reducing living costs by providing fresh produce and groceries at discounted prices through coupon subsidies. The programme was launched in conjunction with the Melaka Bila Larut Malam 2026 event, officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and attended by MBMB Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman.

Besides providing affordable goods, Jualan MeSRa serves as a platform to enhance the economic prospects of main market traders, especially through night sales.

Visitors praised the initiative. Hamimah Abd Jalil, 68, from Bukit Baru, expressed her hope that the programme would continue to alleviate financial burdens, suggesting it be held quarterly. Meanwhile, Mohd Hafiz Azhari, 39, from Taman Bertam Indah, also supported the continuation of the programme, noting its convenience for those working day shifts.
