The Melaka Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), as of May 22, has issued 887 Permit Sembelihan Luar (PSL) for livestock slaughter outside approved abattoirs in conjunction with Aidiladha this year. State Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee deputy chairman Low Chee Leong announced the issuance, which involves 2,834 livestock animals, comprising 2,623 cattle or buffaloes and 211 goats or sheep.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the number of PSLs issued is expected to increase as the application period remains open until May 25. Applications for the PSL began on May 11 and can be submitted at the nearest district or area veterinary services office. Applicants must first secure a Veterinary Health Certificate (SKV) for the livestock intended for slaughter.

Low Chee Leong detailed that slaughtering for sale purposes is permitted from May 24 to May 26, while slaughtering for sacrificial rites is allowed from May 27 to May 3 0, 2026. The PSL facilitates livestock slaughter activities outside government and licensed private abattoirs in conjunction with Aidiladha. The permits ensure that outside slaughter activities are monitored and conducted in accordance with stipulated requirements, including veterinary health, public health, and food safety standards.
