Melaka: Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) has announced its firm stance on defending all 21 State Legislative Assembly seats won by the coalition in the upcoming state election.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh emphasized that this decision is non-negotiable and serves as a primary condition for any party wishing to collaborate with the coalition in the state election. "We will not compromise on the 21 seats; that is our boundary for negotiations," Ab Rauf stated to reporters following the Melaka Digital Kampung Directional Alignment Workshop.

In response to reports about potential discussions with three senior leaders from PAS, Ab Rauf, who also chairs the Melaka UMNO liaison committee, expressed openness to negotiations. He emphasized the need for discussions to be based on reasonable grounds, adding that any decision would require the blessing of the Supreme Council (MT).

Addressing speculation about the possible dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly in September, Ab Rauf, also serving as Melaka's Chief Minister, mentioned that such an event could occur at any time. He remarked, "The election can be held at any time, there is no problem, it is just that I have not received any inspiration about the date yet. I will dissolve the assembly when the time comes."

Currently, Melaka comprises 28 state seats, with the BN forming the government after securing 21 seats in the 15th state election. Pakatan Harapan (PH) holds five seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) has two. The term of the Melaka state government is set to expire on December 31.
