Melaka: The Melaka state government has announced a special holiday for all state and federal civil servants in the state on 1 Ramadan, which is expected to fall on February 19. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh stated that this gesture is in appreciation of the tireless service of all civil servants in Melaka, who worked hard to implement various programmes last year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Chief Minister highlighted the dedication of civil servants, noting comments from spouses expressing concern over the demanding schedules faced by their partners. He acknowledged the commitment shown by Melaka's civil servants, who often work long hours and in challenging conditions, sacrificing time with their families for the benefit of the community.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that the special holiday would provide an opportunity for civil servants to prepare for Ramadan with their families, allowing them to reconnect with loved ones. The announcement was made during the 2026 New Year's Address, themed "Year of Implementation: Sustainability Indicators, Fulfilling Trust, Strengthening Performance," held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh.
The event was attended by Melaka State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad. The announcement of the special holiday contributes to a series of public holidays in Melaka, starting with the Chinese New Year celebrations on February 17 and 18, the special holiday for 1 Ramadan on February 19, the Independence Day of the Federation of Malaya on February 20, followed by weekend holidays on February 21 and 22.
