Megah Port Commits To Boosting Labuan Tourism Via International Cruise Arrivals

Labuan: Labuan’s container port operator, Megah Port Management Sdn Bhd (MPM) has committed to playing a pivotal role in enhancing the island’s tourism landscape by facilitating the arrival of international cruise liners.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, in a comprehensive presentation to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa at Wisma Perbadanan Labuan today, MPM outlined its preparedness to position Labuan as a cruise destination. This includes urgent repair and upgrading works implemented at the Labuan port’s jetty infrastructure to accommodate the docking of large cruise vessels.

The presentation was also attended by Department of Federal Territories (JWP) director-general Datuk Seri Noridah Abdul Rahim, Labuan Corporation (LC) chief executive officer Mohd Sukuran Taib, MPM managing director Datuk Seri Patrick Tiong, as well as LC and MPM officials.

Dr Zaliha commended the initiative, stating that the integration of Labuan into the cruise tourism circuit would diversify the island’s tourism portfolio. “We will continue to explore viable attractions across this island to strengthen its tourism offerings,” she said.

Supporting the initiative is MPM’s sister company, Sailion Shipping, which currently handles international cruises from the United States and Europe calling at major Malaysian ports such as Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu, Port Klang, Langkawi, and Penang, as well as Brunei.
