Batu kawan: A comprehensive strategy is needed to ensure UMNO remains relevant to young voters under 40, who will constitute the majority group in the upcoming General Election, said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah. He emphasized that the initiative to engage with this demographic should not be the sole responsibility of UMNO Youth but instead, should involve the entire party machinery.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Anuar stated, “This is a large group. They are critical thinkers and educated. If we don’t craft the right strategy to engage them, we will continue to lose support.” He stressed the importance of a unified effort, noting, “We must do it together. This is a major group that will determine the party’s survival,” during a press briefing after opening the Batu Kawan UMNO Division delegates meeting.
To capture the interest of this group, Shamsul Anuar, who is also Deputy Home Minister, emphasized that UMNO must demonstrate alignment with the party’s founding principles to gain the trust of the younger generation. He acknowledged that some youths may not be interested in the history or origins of UMNO’s struggle, but highlighted the need for the message delivery to adapt to changing times and the diverse interests among them.
