Tanah merah: A mechanic was seriously injured in an explosion believed to have been caused by gas leaking from a vehicle's air-conditioning unit at a workshop near Kampung Air Merbo, Jedok, Tanah Merah yesterday. Tanah Merah district police chief Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah stated that the explosion occurred when Mohd Sharul Nizam Rahim, 31, was repairing a vehicle alone in the workshop.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the police received word about the incident from the public at about 8 pm and found that the victim had sustained serious injuries to his right leg. The injured mechanic was promptly sent to Tanah Merah Hospital for further treatment and is currently in the intensive care unit. His condition has not yet stabilized.

Police are still investigating the cause of the explosion. Preliminary investigations revealed that the cause might be from a gas leak from an air conditioning unit. A police forensic unit, a bomb disposal unit, along with the Fire and Rescue Department, are examining the explosion. Checks at the incident location revealed there were no CCTVs or any independent witnesses at the location.
