Kuala lumpur: The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced its unwavering support for the Malaysia Digital 2030 (MD2030) agenda, aiming to position Malaysia as an inclusive, trusted, and globally competitive AI Nation by 2030.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MDEC chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah emphasized the agency's crucial role in executing the national agenda by integrating industry, talent, infrastructure, and innovation to propel Malaysia's digital growth. He highlighted the government's objective to increase the digital economy's contribution to GDP from 25 to 30 percent, with MDEC leading efforts in AI adoption and digital economy acceleration.

Ganesh noted that Malaysia already has several key elements needed to become a leading AI nation, such as data centers, talent, digital companies, and an expanding innovation ecosystem. He reiterated MDEC's responsibility to consolidate these strengths to spearhead the nation's digital transformation.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched MD2030 on June 29, marking a strategic shift from technology consumption to fostering home-grown innovation. MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil stated that the agency has consistently adapted through various technological waves, maintaining its mission to enhance Malaysia's digital economy and improve citizens' lives.

MD2030 is structured around seven strategic pillars: government, economy, infrastructure, talent, society, trust and security, and innovation, under the leadership of the Ministry of Digital. MDEC, along with other agencies like the National AI Office and CyberSecurity Malaysia, is tasked with supporting MD2030's implementation.
