Selangor: A total of 8,391 veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) who are not pensioners in Selangor received Jom Shopping vouchers in conjunction with the National Warriors' Day 2026 celebration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the inaugural initiative is designed to honor the services, contributions, and sacrifices of the veterans who have defended the nation's sovereignty and security. The initiative aligns with the principle of ensuring that no one in the state is left behind.

Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari emphasized that while the vouchers may not fully repay the veterans' services, they symbolize the state government's ongoing recognition and memory of their sacrifices. The voucher distribution will occur in stages across state assembly constituencies, aiming for completion by late July or early August.

Amirudin also expressed intentions to expand the initiative next year to include more than 22,700 pensioned veterans, acknowledging that some pension rates are not very high. He highlighted the importance of recognizing the active role of security personnel in both national defense and local crisis management, such as flood disaster relief.

The state government remains committed to addressing the welfare of the people amid current living cost challenges. Initiatives like this are crucial for inclusively celebrating and supporting military and police veterans, especially those who retire early due to various factors.

The event, attended by State Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman V. Papparaidu and State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi, saw each veteran receiving vouchers worth RM200.
