MCMC Enhances Use Of Parental Control In Safe Internet Campaign

Hang tuah jaya: Efforts to enhance family digital security continue to be intensified by emphasising the use of parental control in the Safe Internet Campaign at the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency today. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said that the campaign held here in conjunction with the Hang Tuah Jaya Parliamentary Excellent Student Award Ceremony involved the participation of school students along with their parents from the area.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme focuses on empowering the community's digital literacy, particularly in the aspects of family protection and cybercrime prevention. "MCMC also emphasises efforts to enhance parents' awareness and skills in setting parental controls on children's devices to ensure safer and more controlled internet usage," according to the statement.

It said that in line with its strategic direction for 2026, the campaign also focuses on engaging grassroots communities and the elderly in efforts to curb the threat of online financial scams. In addition, the "Youth-to-Community" approach was also introduced through the involvement of student leaders from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) Student Representative Council (MPP) who have completed the Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Safe Internet Campaign.

"They will act as strategic advocacy facilitators by directly conducting modules with the local community, thereby helping to bridge the generational gap in digital literacy," according to the statement. MCMC added that so far, the advocacy campaign has reached 438 communities nationwide, including 25 communities in Melaka, and they aim to implement 200 targeted campaigns with communities in each state by the end of this year.

Earlier, the programme officiated by the Deputy Higher Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Hang Tuah Jaya, Adam Adli Abd Halim, was also attended by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
