Melaka: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has conducted 636 audits on the quality of communication line services in Melaka from 2025 to March 31 this year, the State Legislative Assembly sitting was told today. State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan emphasized the focus on areas with public complaints during these audits.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, if audit findings show a telco's non-compliance with the Mandatory Standards for Quality of Service (MSQoS), an immediate compliance notice is issued. Telcos are then required to present an improvement plan, either by upgrading existing equipment or constructing new communication towers. Fairul Nizam shared this information while responding to Datuk Siti Faizah Abdul Azis's supplementary question on procedures to address mobile line service disruptions.
Fairul Nizam elaborated that the audits identified 24 weak coverage locations needing new telecommunications towers under the Universal Service Provision (USP) allocation, with completion expected by the second quarter of 2027. Eleven locations have already been completed and are operational, including Kampung Batu Gajah and Taman Bemban Heights, among others.
Thirteen locations are under implementation, involving areas such as Taman Jus Perdana and Hospital Jasin. In response to an original question from Siti Faizah on 4G and 5G coverage in the Sungai Rambai state constituency, Fairul Nizam stated that as of March 31, 2026, 4G network coverage reached 100 per cent. He also noted that Digital Nasional Berhad achieved 83.2 per cent 5G coverage in populated areas, while U Mobile Sdn Bhd recorded 40 per cent coverage.
Despite achieving 100 per cent 4G coverage in Sungai Rambai, MCMC continues to monitor compliance with service quality standards by service providers.
