MCKK Series Exhibition Showcases Heritage Through Paintings

Kuala Lumpur:The MCKK Series Exhibition 2026, featuring 49 paintings that highlight the heritage of The Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) and the royal town of Kuala Kangsar, Perak, is being held from October 3 to October 18 at the KL City Art Gallery in Publika Shopping Gallery.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti of Negeri Sembilan, Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz, officiated the exhibition, emphasizing the significance of preserving the memories and rich history associated with MCKK. He noted that the exhibition offers a chance to reflect on MCKK and Kuala Kangsar through familiar scenes and memories encapsulated in the artworks.

The artworks were specially commissioned as part of The MCKK Fundraising initiative, with proceeds supporting the school. Tunku Ali encouraged Old Boys, parents, friends, institutions, and Malaysians to support the MCKK Foundation's fundraising efforts, whether by acquiring paintings or contributing directly to the MCKK Endowment Fund.

Haron Mokhtar, the artist behind the collection, expressed his desire to contribute to the country through his art, aiming to preserve the memories of MCKK for future generations. He mentioned that despite not being wealthy, his talent allows him to make a meaningful contribution. Haron, who retired from teaching in 2021, said this exhibition marks his ninth solo showcase and took two years to complete.

The collection captures various aspects of MCKK, including its buildings, traditions, sporting activities, student life, and associated memories. It also features notable landmarks across Kuala Kangsar, such as Masjid Ubudiah, Masjid Ridzwaniah, Istana Iskandariah, the colonial-era post office, the Kuala Kangsar railway station, and the famous Yut Loy kopitiam. Proceeds from the sale of artworks and the exhibition catalogue will be directed to The MCKK Foundation.
