McDonald’s Malaysia Supports Sepak Takraw with RM50,000 Contribution

Kuala Lumpur:McDonald's Malaysia today fulfilled its promise by contributing RM50,000 to the Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) following the national squad's historic gold medal triumph at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, McDonald's Malaysia managing director and local operating partner Datuk Azmir Jaafar presented the contribution to PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan to support the development of the nation's traditional sport.

Azmir noted that the national team's achievement not only made Malaysians proud but is also expected to inspire the younger generation to pursue success in sepak takraw. He emphasized the significance of the squad's victory, attributing it to years of training, sacrifice, teamwork, and the unwavering support of their families, coaches, and management. The contribution aims to help PSM nurture more young talents in the sport.

In Japan, Malaysia made history by defeating their traditional rival Thailand 2-0 in the men's team regu final, ending a 36-year wait to reclaim the gold medal in the event. Additionally, the national squad, led by head coach Ahmad Jais Baharun, secured a silver medal in the men's regu event at the Asian Games.

Azmir expressed hope that national players would mentor and motivate participants of the Mekdi National Takraw League 2026, organized by McDonald's Malaysia, especially those aspiring to represent the country. Ahmad Jais described McDonald's Malaysia's contribution as a positive boost for sepak takraw, enhancing its competitiveness on the international stage and expressing hope for continued collaboration.

Beyond sports development, McDonald's Malaysia also runs youth empowerment initiatives through the Program Santun Pelajar, McDonald's Vocational Academy, Academy in Industry (ADI), and the Graduate Employability Programme (GEP).
