Johor bahru: MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong today declared that the party is at a high level of readiness to face the 16th general election (GE16). The Ayer Hitam MP said MCA has been preparing early to face the election and did not leave things to the last minute, adding that elections could be called at any time because administrations usually last between three years eight months and over four years, based on the last 15 general elections.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wee Ka Siong mentioned during a media conference after attending MCA's annual Johor conference 2026 at Dewan Persatuan Vhe Ann Khor, that there are only several months left until the election, estimating maybe four to five months. He suggested that if expedited, elections usually occur before reaching the five-year mark.

Wee downplayed the number of seats MCA aimed to contest in GE16, stating that it was not the main issue. He emphasized that winning more seats is more important than contesting a large number of seats without success, saying, "It's only self-gratification if we contest 50 seats and lost all of them, it's pointless. For me, our target is to win."

Regarding Kluang UMNO's proposal that MCA give way for UMNO to contest the Kluang parliamentary seat for GE16, Wee said it could be discussed at the grassroots level, with the final decision resting with the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership. He noted that any changes or swapping of seats in other areas would follow the same process. "What's more important is that if BN places a candidate, that's the candidate who represents BN," he added.
