MBPP Shuts Down Five Businesses Operated by Foreign Nationals

Penang Island:The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) recently closed five business premises on Jalan Baru, Batu Maung, as part of an enforcement operation named 'Ops Tegas.' During the operation conducted two days ago, business equipment was seized from these locations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the businesses are believed to be operated by foreign nationals. The operation followed intelligence reports and information about various businesses, including a grocery store, eateries, and a barbershop, being run by foreigners.

Inspections revealed the employment of foreign workers at these sites. In one instance, a foreign national was unable to provide identification documents and fled the scene. It was also discovered that raw chicken and fish were processed within the business areas. Additionally, a barbershop was found to have a passage leading to living quarters and a food preparation area.

The MBPP stated that the closure and equipment seizure were conducted under the Local Government Act 1976.
