Penang: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is utilizing the Multi-Purpose Loader with Crane, a specialized machine, to remove abandoned or tyreless vehicles obstructing public parking spaces.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MBPP Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran stated that the equipment, acquired in 2022, is specifically designed for handling abandoned vehicles that cannot be safely moved with conventional tow trucks. This machinery is particularly useful for vehicles without tyres or those parked in a manner that makes access and removal by tow trucks challenging.

The special machinery recently gained attention on social media after a user posted a video of it removing a vehicle, prompting positive public reactions. The video, lasting three minutes and 28 seconds, shows the Multi-Purpose Loader with Crane lifting a car from a parking area and transporting it away to clear the space.

Rajendran clarified that the machinery is not typically used for cases of illegal parking or vehicles blocking traffic, as MBPP has other enforcement vehicles designated for towing. Additionally, the Multi-Purpose Loader with Crane can assist in removing heavy objects, such as concrete barriers, when necessary.
