Sitiawan: The Region One Marine Police Force arrested a local man and seized various types of fireworks, estimated to be worth RM105,400, during a raid at a house in Taman Rasa Sayang near Sitiawan yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, its commander, ACP Jaffri Bidin, stated that the 44-year-old man was detained at about 4 pm following information received from the public. Subsequent inspections revealed several boxes of fireworks stored in the kitchen area of the house and inside a van.
The man admitted that he did not possess any valid licence to own or store the fireworks and had been using the house as a storage facility for the past two weeks to sell the items in the Sitiawan area ahead of the upcoming Chinese New Year. The types of fireworks seized included 'happy boom red cracker', 'happy boom assorted celebration cake repeater', 'happy boom shoot cake', and 'happy boom celebration red fire cracker'.
The seized fireworks, along with a Toyota Hiace van, were transported to the Marine Police Force Operations Base in Kampung Acheh, Sitiawan, for documentation before being handed over to the Manjung police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department. The investigation will be conducted under the Explosives Act 1957.
