Ayer keroh: A man who assaulted his pregnant wife on Sunday has been remanded for four days at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court here, starting today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the remand order against the food delivery person was issued by Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani. The order will remain in effect until Monday (March 23) to facilitate an investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18(A) of the Domestic Violence Act 1994. These sections provide for a maximum imprisonment of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.
The incident led to the arrest of the suspect, who was accused of beating his pregnant wife at a house in Taman Seri Kemendor, Jasin. Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit reported that the 22-year-old suspect was apprehended by a team of officers from the D8 and D11 units of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Melaka police contingent headquarters (IPK) around 11 am.
