Selayang: An unemployed man was sentenced to three months' jail and fined RM400 in the Selayang Magistrate's Court here today after pleading guilty to impersonating a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Izham Mohd Zainuddin, 34, was handed the sentence by Magistrate Chai Guan Hock. The court ordered that his jail term commence from the date of his arrest on July 30, 2026. Additionally, Mohd Izham faces an extra month in jail if he fails to pay the imposed fine.

Mohd Izham's charges include introducing himself as a MACC officer and presenting a work pass with the MACC logo to a 69-year-old man, despite not being a public servant. This act was committed at a residence in Taman Selasih Phase 2, Batu Caves, Selangor. The charge falls under Section 171 of the Penal Code, which stipulates a maximum prison sentence of three months, a fine of RM400, or both.

In a separate case within the same court, Mohd Izham pleaded not guilty to accusations of defrauding a 55-year-old woman. He allegedly deceived the victim into handing over RM31,500 for a supposed purchase of a plot of land in Kampung Muhibah Utama, Sungai Tinggi in Hulu Selangor. This offence reportedly occurred between June 2 and June 22, 2026, at Lot 211, Jalan Besar Selayang Indah, Batu Caves.

The charge for this offence falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential penalty of not less than one year and a maximum of 10 years in prison, along with whipping and a possible fine, upon conviction. The court denied bail for Mohd Izham and scheduled the case mention for November 17.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Birr Zamier Abu Bakar handled the case, while the accused remained unrepresented.
