Kuala lumpur: A man pleaded not guilty at the Sessions and Magistrates' Courts here today to 12 charges of armed robbery and cheating involving jewellery and cash totalling more than RM90,000 between 2022 and this year. B. Murugan, 52, entered his plea after all charges against him were read out before Judge Mujib Saroji and Magistrates Siti Zubaidah Mamat, A. Karthiyayini and Nor Azilah Mat.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, at the Sessions Court, Murugan was charged with two counts of robbery using a knife against two local women, both aged 74, in Taman Sri Sentosa and Bandar Sultan Sulaiman here on January 3, 2024, and February 10 this year. The charges were framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 397 of the same code, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and a fine or whipping upon conviction.

In the Magistrates' Courts, Murugan faced five counts of cheating, four counts of theft, and one count of robbery, with the offences allegedly committed in the Klang district between 2022 and 2025. He was charged under Sections 379, 380, 392, and 417 of the Penal Code, which provide for imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Nor Suhaili Abu Bakar, Mohammad Uzzair Rosman, and Salman Alfarisi Nawawi, along with prosecuting officer Insp Mohamad Rabiul Awal Ishak, represented the prosecution. The prosecution offered bail of between RM4,000 and RM12,000 for each charge against Murugan.

Lawyer T. Daneish, representing Murugan, sought minimum bail, arguing that his client, a former e-hailing driver, was the sole breadwinner of his family and suffered from a heart condition. The court set bail at RM46,000 and fixed September 9 and October 13 for mention at the Sessions Court and Magistrates' Courts respectively.
