Ayer Keroh:A man appeared in the Ayer Keroh Sessions and Magistrates' Courts today, pleading not guilty to multiple charges, which include injuring an elderly person and a child, attempted vehicle theft, and public indecency.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Firdaus Jamal, aged 37, faced the charges before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah and Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin. In the Sessions Court, he was accused of causing serious injury to Nordin Sonsang, 63, by striking him with a bottle filled with a brown liquid at a residence in Kampung Ayer Molek on September 29 at 7.30 pm. This charge is under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which could result in a prison term of up to 20 years, alongside possible fines or whipping.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Qayyum Ramlan requested a mental health evaluation for the accused, who did not have legal representation. In the Magistrates' Court, Muhammad Firdaus was charged with attempting to steal a Toyota Alphard in Taman Ayer Molek at approximately 8 pm on the same day. This charge falls under Section 379A of the Penal Code and carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a fine.
Additionally, he faced charges for injuring a two-year-eight-month-old girl at the same location at 8.20 pm, which is an offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code, punishable by up to one year in prison or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. Furthermore, Muhammad Firdaus was charged under Section 377D for committing an act of gross indecency by appearing naked in public at a house in Taman Ayer Molek at 8.20 pm. This offence carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Muhammad Nadzir Abdol Rahman was responsible for the prosecution. The judge and magistrate ordered Muhammad Firdaus to undergo a mental health assessment at Permai Hospital and scheduled the case for mention on November 5.
