Gerik: A man who went missing after going out to fish in Sungai Perak near the Kampung Pulau Belayar public jetty in Gerik yesterday was found drowned this evening.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak Fire and Rescue Department Acting Assistant Director (Operations) Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah stated that the body of Azri Md Sharif, 53, was discovered by the search and rescue team at 5 pm. The search operation was conducted on the river surface using boats, covering up to about 2.4 kilometres from the jetty.

The victim’s belongings were found in the search area before his body was located approximately 100 metres from his boat. Shazlean mentioned that the victim’s body was brought ashore using a boat and handed over to the police, with the operation concluding at 7.15 pm.

The victim was reported to have gone out at around 3.30 pm yesterday to fish in Sungai Perak. Azri’s wife shared that he usually returned home before 7 pm after fishing, but he did not come back this time.
