Paka: A man drowned while checking his mud crab traps in Kampung Tebing Tembah, Paka near here today. Paka Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander Irwan Rashid reported that the victim, Mohd Afiq Ahmad, 36, left his house at 10 am yesterday to check on his crab traps at a swamp located 1.5 kilometres away.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, personnel from the Paka Fire and Rescue Station arrived at 7.21 am today to conduct a search-and-rescue operation after a report of the missing man was filed. Firefighters conducted a search around the swamp area based on information from the victim's family. Mohd Afiq's body was discovered at 10 am today.

The victim's body was handed over to the police and sent to Dungun Hospital for a post-mortem. The victim's brother-in-law, Mohd Hafis A Talib, 47, stated that Mohd Afiq suffered from epilepsy. He filed a police report at 11 pm yesterday after his brother-in-law failed to return home.
