Besut: A 28-year-old local man who reportedly jumped into Sungai Kampung Gong Maksom near Kampung Raja to evade a police check was found drowned this morning. Besut district police chief Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim stated that the search and rescue team discovered the victim's body at around 11.30 am, approximately 250 metres from where he was last seen.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the incident occurred at approximately 5.45 pm yesterday when police officers were conducting routine checks for a drug case near the river bank. The man allegedly fled from the officers and leaped into the river in an attempt to escape, subsequently vanishing from sight.
Supt Mohd Rozaime confirmed that the victim's body has been sent to Besut Hospital's forensic unit for a post-mortem examination. In addition, a further search of a wooden shed near the scene led to the discovery of pills suspected to be drugs, which adds another dimension to the ongoing investigation.
