Gerik: Police have arrested a man for allegedly committing sexual harassment at a supermarket in Gerik yesterday. Gerik police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said they received a report regarding the incident at 5.57 pm.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, investigations revealed that at 3.33 pm, the complainant, a 25-year-old woman working at the supermarket, heard a sound resembling a zipper being opened. Upon investigating, she found the suspect engaged in an indecent act while looking at her. The complainant recorded the incident on her mobile phone and confronted the suspect, who then immediately left the supermarket.
The Gerik police managed to track down and arrest the 55-year-old man and will seek a remand order to facilitate further investigations. Abdul Samad stated that the case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
Meanwhile, Abdul Samad mentioned that the suspect, who is unemployed and single, had received treatment for mental issues. The suspect was apprehended at the Gerik Bus Station at 9.45 pm.
