HERE Technologies Joins SOAFEE to Advance Software-Defined Vehicle Development

Here technologies: The mapping and location data company has announced its participation in the Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge (SOAFEE), an industry-led initiative aimed at accelerating the transition to software-defined vehicles.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, HERE Technologies will also become a member of the SOAFEE Technical Steering Committee. The company plans to bring its expertise in artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mapmaking and location intelligence to bolster open, cloud-native development frameworks for next-generation vehicle software. "By joining the Technical Steering Committee, HERE looks forward to contributing its live maps, data pipelines, and location expertise to help the industry develop SDV platforms that are scalable, interoperable, and ready for the road," said Severin Bredahl-Banovic, Vice President of Business and Solution Architecture at HERE.

The SOAFEE initiative is a collaborative effort that unites automakers, suppliers, and technology companies around a standardized open architecture. This architecture is specifically designed to simplify the development, deployment, and scaling of software-defined vehicles (SDVs). Through SOAFEE's open governance model, HERE aims to support faster prototyping, integration, and collaborative innovation within the SDV ecosystem.

HERE Technologies plans to leverage its extensive experience working with global automakers to integrate mapping, geospatial data, and real-time location services into SDV software stacks. The company's goal is to help the automotive industry seamlessly incorporate geospatial technology across cloud and vehicle environments. This includes utilizing real-time location data alongside safety and performance requirements through its AI-powered live map, dynamic data pipelines, and sensor fusion capabilities.

According to HERE, its location platform currently powers 238 million vehicles worldwide, with over 63 million of these vehicles using the company's data to support driver assistance and automated driving functions.
