Malaysia’s Global Peace Index Ranking Highlights Security Efforts, Says Home Minister

Kampung Kela:Malaysia's 12th-place ranking among 163 countries in the 2026 Global Peace Index (GPI) demonstrates the country's ongoing efforts to maintain safety and security, particularly through the work of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that the ranking reflects a secure environment, allowing Malaysians to live their daily lives in peace and comfort without undue concern over security threats. He highlighted the government's establishment of the Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC) as a measure to further improve police services, with the target of advancing Malaysia from 12th to ninth place in future rankings.

The Home Minister stated that the IPCC plays a crucial role in ensuring that the police force upholds high standards in its duties. He noted that similar commissions hold significant positions in many other countries and are vital for maintaining public trust and accountability.

During the IPCC's Santuni MADANI programme in Kampung Kela, the Home Ministry, through the IPCC, distributed essential goods and equipment worth RM20,000 to five surau (small prayer halls) and eight families with members who have permanent disabilities in the village. The programme is part of the IPCC's efforts to strengthen ties between its leadership and local communities under the One Leader, One Village initiative.

The IPCC stated that the Santuni MADANI programme provides an opportunity for direct engagement with residents to better understand their needs and facilitate access to government services, particularly those under the purview of the Home Ministry. It also serves as a platform to raise public awareness of the IPCC's functions and roles, including among the Orang Asli community. The participation of various agencies under the Home Ministry underscores the importance of an inclusive approach to improving public access to information and government services.
