Kuala lumpur: Maintaining good relations with major world powers such as China and the United States has never weakened Malaysia's position in upholding its national principles on international issues, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. He emphasized that Malaysia practises a policy of friendship with all countries while remaining firm in safeguarding national interests, including matters related to trade, investment, and law enforcement.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar clarified that Malaysia's close ties with China, for instance, have brought benefits in trade, investment, and education. However, the government would not compromise on any violation of the country's laws. He emphasized that while Malaysia maintains good relations with China, any parties violating regulations and conducting business without permits would face action.
Anwar highlighted that Malaysia's diplomatic engagements with countries such as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Egypt, China, and the United States enable it to play a significant role on the international stage without sacrificing national interests. He noted that Malaysia's stand is respected globally, as evidenced by hosting many world leaders recently, including United States President Donald Trump.
Furthermore, Anwar addressed criticism over his diplomatic approach, emphasizing that fostering good relations with world leaders is essential to strengthening cooperation and creating opportunities for Malaysia. He reiterated his commitment to protecting Malaysian interests and ensuring the country's global respect.
